Presentation of ‘Expo To Venice’ held in Gaeta
Assonautica Italiana’s project aimed at Expo 2015 was presented at the Yacht Med Festival
At Gaeta Yacht Med Festival, National President Alfredo Malcarne and General Secretary Matteo Dusconi presented Assonautica Italiana’s major project targeted at Expo 2105: ‘Expo To Venice.’
Assonautica Italiana has acquired full use of an exhibition area measuring 64 square metres in the large ‘Aquae’ pavilion of Expo 2015 thanks to a competition won by the project ‘VES Venice Ecomuseum System’ in collaboration with Biennale and FISPMED. The Venice Ecomuseum System pilot project, which has been included in the ‘Venice to Expo 2015’ Committee’s master plan as the best strategic project for Venice, the Waterways, the Lagoon, the islands and the Upper Adriatic metropolitan area, was chosen to be presented at the world’s fair with Assonautica Italiana and with partners of excellence in the fields of Sea Economy and Blue Economy, sustainable tourism and the promotion of regional culinary excellence, and technological innovation applied to boating, the anti-pollution sector, water purification and green chemistry.
As an accompaniment to the ‘Expo To Venice’ project, Assonautica Italiana has prepared ‘AdrIon to Expo Venice,’ a project with a wide scope that aims to enhance the Adriatic (ADR) and Ionian (ION) areas. The aim of ‘AdrIon to Expo Venice’ is to recover and restore the importance of the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea and their natural role, which is to serve as a fundamental link and union between territories, peoples, civilisations, histories, cultures and traditions that have made the history of the Mediterranean. Precisely for this reason, the decision was taken to use the ‘umbrella’ brand of the Forum of the Chambers of Commerce of the Adriatic and the Ionian, AdrIon, which, besides being an expression of the ‘will to be together’ on the part of the associated organisations of the Adriatic-Ionian macro-area, also helps and supports the tourist operators in developing tourism, especially in the areas where growth is still weak. With this in mind, the idea was conceived to evoke a route which as well as being historical is now also commercial, touristic and cultural: the ‘Salt Route’ in the Adriatic, which has been cruised for more than two decades by the now legendary ‘Appointment in the Adriatic and Ionian’ fleet. The route will start from the ports of Puglia and will mainly touch the ports and harbours of the Ionian and Adriatic, picking and choosing what is excellent in each province and representative of different sectors: wine and agri-food, arts and crafts, tourism, culture, gastronomy, hospitality, natural treasures, architecture and history, in short all the possible levers for local marketing, and all possible amenities for an incoming tourism policy.
On this occasion, the task of following and commemorating the route has been entrusted to a prestigious two-mast sailing ship (owned by Assonautica Euromediterranea) with a crew of experienced sailors and professional bloggers who will start from the individual ports of Puglia and pass through Molise, Abruzzo and Emilia Romagna to arrive in Venice, the site of the water-based activities and initiatives to accompany Expo Milano 2015. The journey will consist of several stages and that will transform the AdrIon to Expo Venice ship into a real promotional platform for the development of the great cultural heritage related to the crafts, food and wine of the Adriatic, through the organisation of events, meetings, tastings and exhibitions based around the typical products of the host area. Each of these regions, which will contribute to the composition of a rich ‘Adriatic galley,’ will then be re-launched and promoted with more events during Assonautica’s time in the Aquae pavilion at Venice to Expo 2015.
In general, the schedule for the AdrIon project includes three distinct moments that are nevertheless totally integrated under the institutional umbrella of Assonautica Italiana and Unioncamere, with events related to the project ‘Assonautica® Galley, The Italian Excellence. Wine, food, handicraft and tourism,’ which aims to promote excellence in the area of wine and food, without forgetting the artistic crafts and high quality tourism opportunities; the project ‘Quality Marine® by Assonautica/ Unioncamere,’ aimed at the qualification and certification of ports, harbours and marinas in Italy; and the project ‘Italian Yachtsmen Portrait,’ which aims to sketch a true portrait of Italian yachters.
