Il Primo Ministro Cameron: “Orgoglioso di un Padiglione di così grande impatto”
L’alzabandiera e il suono degli inni nazionali italiano e inglese hanno aperto la giornata di mercoledì 17 giugno, dedicata al Regno Unito e alla sua partecipazione a Expo Milano 2015: One GREAT Day. Erano presenti Lord Francis Maude of Horsham, Ministro per il Commercio e gli Investimenti di Londra, e il Commissario generale di Expo Milano 2015, Bruno Pasquino, oltre all’Ambasciatore Christopher Prentice e al Console Tim Flear. Contestualmente il Primo Ministro David Cameron ha incontrato il Premier Matteo Renzi a Palazzo Italia.
“È un piacere essere qui per celebrare la creatività, le innovazioni e lo sviluppo del Regno Unito”, ha commentato Lord Maude aprendo il National Day. “Eventi come l’Esposizione Universale possono creare opportunità interessanti: le Olimpiadi 2012 hanno permesso alla Gran Bretagna di aumentare i suoi investimenti di circa 19 miliardi di euro. Auguriamo all’Italia un’eredità commerciale simile. Expo è un’occasione unica per scambiare best practices e collaborare per trovare soluzioni alle sfide di una crescita sostenibile”.
Innovazione e creatività, queste le due parole chiave anche nel discorso del Commissario Pasquino: “Il Regno Unito è un alveare di innovazione e creatività che contribuisce a nutrire il Pianeta. Straordinario l’impegno che questo Paese ha messo nel partecipare a Expo conciliando genio, spirito imprenditoriale e senso estetico. Rappresentare il mondo attraverso lo sguardo di un’ape è un’idea semplice e geniale che rappresenta le diverse anime di Expo Milano 2015”. Il National Day è proseguito con canti, spettacoli, degustazioni di specialità britanniche.
In occasione del National Day, Palazzo Italia ha ospitato un incontro privato tra il Primo Ministro inglese David Cameron e il Presidente del Consiglio Matteo Renzi. “È meraviglioso essere qui, voglio congratularmi con voi per come state gestendo una splendida manifestazione come Expo Milano 2015”, ha commentato Cameron. “Sono molto orgoglioso che il Regno Unito sia presente con un Padiglione così di grande impatto”.
Expo Celebrates UK National Day

The raising of the flag and the sound of the Italian and British national anthems opened the day – Wednesday 17 June – dedicated to the UK and its participation in Expo Milano 2015: a GREAT Day. Taking part in the ceremony were Lord Francis Maude of Horsham, British Minister for Trade and Investments, and the general Commissioner of Expo Milano 2015, Bruno Pasquino, as well as the Ambassador, Christopher Prentice and the Consul, Tim Flear. On that same day, Prime Minister David Cameron met Premier Matteo Renzi in Palazzo Italia.
“It is a pleasure to be here to celebrate the creativity, innovation and growth of the United Kingdom,” remarked Lord Maude on opening the National Day. “Events like the Universal Exposition can create interesting opportunities: the 2012 Olympics enabled Great Britain to increase its investments by about 19 billion euro. We hope that Italy too will achieve a similar level of business success. Expo is a unique opportunity to exchange best practices and cooperate to find solutions to the challenges of sustainable growth.”
Innovation and creativity, these were also the two key words of the speech given by Commissioner Pasquino: “The United Kingdom is a beehive of innovation and creativity which helps feed the Planet. The commitment which the country has made as regards its participation in Expo, reconciling ingenuity, entrepreneurial spirit and aesthetic sense, is simply extraordinary. Representing the world through the eyes of a bee is a simple and ingenious idea that represents the different spirits of Expo Milano 2015.” The National Day continued with songs, shows and tastings of UK specialities.
During the National Day, Palazzo Italia hosted a private meeting between the British Prime Minister, David Cameron and Italian Premier, Matteo Renzi. “It is wonderful to be here. I should like to congratulate you all for the way you are managing a splendid event like Expo Milano 2015”, remarked Cameron. “I am very proud that the United Kingdom is here with a Pavilion of such strong impact”.
