Made in Italy beer exports on the rise
Italian agri-food exports are doing well, and this is nothing new. What is new is that it is not only sales of pasta, wine and cheese that are on the rise on the international markets, but new classes of products – that are difficult to define as traditionally “Made in Italy” – are beginning to meet with great success on the markets. For example, beer. Beer exports have tripled over the last ten years (+206%), along with caviar exports, which have grown from zero to 11.2 million euros.
The beer market – in particular craft beer – has seen excellent performance starting in the domestic market, with more than 301 million litres produced in 2014 and constantly increasing production levels encouraged by strong demand.
According to a study by Astra/AssoBirra, 72% of Italians drink beer, and 60% of those usually drink it at home, while 49% of Italians see beer as the second most common drink to have in the fridge (after water, the essential for life).
