Confindustria Learning Tour: Focus on London
The tour is organized in collaboration with the ICCI for the UK
The Italian Chamber in London has been assisting with the Confindustria Learning Tour 2015 organising key meetings and seminars in London for a delegation of senior managers from the Italian Confindustria network. The purpose of the tour is to give an opportunity to understand the industrial policies that make the UK an international platform and appreciate its attractiveness globally. The meetings and seminars will also analyze not only the economy of the country, to understand the constraints and opportunities of doing business in the UK, but also to learn about its history, culture and its emerging trend.
London was chosen as the destination as the UK is the 6th world economy and the 3rd at European level, mainly driven by the service sector and in particular that of finance. The economic trend suggests that today the UK has finally overcome the recession and that it has entered a very expansive phase, presenting an economic situation that has resettled on pre-crisis levels.
In recent years, the UK has taken important steps to focus firmly on the revival of the manufacturing industry. In support of strong policies of re-industrialization of the country the focus today is particularly on the emerging trend of reshoring (relocation in the country of origin of production activities previously outsourced abroad) which is closely linked to the launch of a flow of investment return.
According to a recent survey by the Confederation of Britain Industry (CBI), already 32% of UK businesses have relocated to their homeland. According to a study by PwC, if the reshoring continues as in recent years, the UK could create between 100 – 200 thousand jobs in the manufacturing sector over the next 10 years, which will have a positive effect on GDP estimated to be between 6 and 12 billion pounds.
London, in particular, is without a doubt the principal hub of technology in Europe and manages to compete and, the majority of the time, overcome other centres of excellence worldwide. There is a strong presence in capital, targeted policy options, proximity to industrial clusters, long term investment infrastructure and transport: these are the elements that have contributed in keeping the spotlight on London, fuelling the birth of innovation and attracting many professionals from abroad.
The intensive three day visit will enable Confindustria Directors to take back information to their own areas to assist them in developing further future projects with the UK.
