Jewels of (Good) Taste
The delights of the table inspire jewellery and bijoux
The shapes and colours of food have always inspired jewellers and fashion designers, and so, thanks to the art of the goldsmith and the imagination of the couturier, food has been freed of its nutritional function and become an object that helps to trace a cheerful, funny and ironic history of jewellery. This is the story being told in the exhibition ‘Gioielli di Gusto’ (Jewels of Taste), which illustrates how dishes and foods have always been vehicles for creativity and emphasise the aesthetic and cultural value of food.
The exhibition – created by a group of curators of the highest profile – will be held at the Fashion Museum in Milan, which is located in Palazzo Morando in Via Sant’Andrea, from 17 September to 8 December 2015, in order to accommodate both the public from Milan Fashion Week and visitors to Expo. The exhibition aims to be one of the ‘Expo in Città’ events offering an additional attraction for all lovers of jewellery, fashion, design and, of course, food and wine. The exhibition set up has been entrusted to Alejandro Ruiz, the internationally renowned designer.
‘Gioielli di Gusto’ will be divided into four areas: ‘Il Gusto delle Maison’ (The Taste of the Fashion Houses), which will host fine jewellery creations dedicated to the theme of food by great national and international jewellers, ‘Il Gusto della Moda’ (The Taste of Fashion), featuring fashion creations by great designers who were inspired by the theme ‘food,’ ‘Il Gusto delle Arti Applicate’ (The Taste of Applied Arts), a collection of pieces related to the theme that are either unique or made in a very limited series, including some of the most interesting examples from the Italian and international scene; ‘Il Gusto Vintage’ (The Taste of Vintage), vintage bijoux, from the first half of the nineteenth century up to the nineties of the last century.
The journey to discover the foods that have inspired the most extraordinary creations does not end there, however. In fact, after the preview in Milan, ‘Gioielli di Gusto’ will go on tour, starting with Brazil in March 2016.
