Alla lotta alla fame gli stati devono dedicare un capitolo a sé dei loro bilanci. L’ex Presidente del Brasile, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, oggi presidente dell’Istituto Lula, lo ha proposto ai ministri di 50 Nazioni, riuniti all’Expo di Milano per il Forum Internazionale dell’Agricoltura, con i rappresentanti di 115 Paesi. “I governanti si devono occupare della lotta alla povertà quando definiscono la destinazione dei loro budget”.
Il modello che Lula ha portato ad esempio è quello del governo brasiliano. “In 12 anni – ha rivendicato – siamo riusciti a togliere 36 milioni di persone dall’estrema povertà e a creare 22 milioni posti di lavoro. Nel 2014 la FAO ha certificato l’uscita del Paese dalla mappa mondiale della fame”. Fondamentale, in questo senso, il programma Bolsa Familia, di cui hanno beneficiato 50 milioni di persone.
Defeating hunger is possible
The countries of the world must dedicate a distinct section of their budgets to the fight against hunger. The former President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, current president of the Lula Institute, made the proposal to the ministers of 50 Countries convened at the Milan Expo for the International Agricultural Forum, together with the representatives of 115 Countries. “Those who govern us must address the fight against poverty when they decide how to allot their budgets”.
The model which Lula gave as an example is that of the Brazilian government. “In 12 years”, he claimed, “we have managed to pull 36 million people out of extreme poverty and create 22 million jobs. In 2014, the FAO certified the country as having left the world hunger map”. The Bolsa Familia programme has been crucial in this respect, benefitting some 50 million people.
