Il Ministro degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale, Paolo Gentiloni, ha ricevuto alla Farnesina il Ministro degli Esteri del Brasile, Mauro Luiz Iecker Vieira. L’incontro si è tenuto anche in vista dell’imminente Vertice UE-CELAC (Comunità degli Stati Latino Americani e dei Caraibi) e della VII Conferenza Italia-America Latina e Caraibi, a Milano il 12 e 13 giugno. Al centro dei colloqui, i principali dossier di politica regionale, la cooperazione economica, il negoziato UE-Mercosur – a proposito del quale Gentiloni ha ribadito il forte interesse italiano alla conclusione di un Accordo Commerciale fra Europa e Mercosur – le opportunità di sinergie bilaterali derivanti dalla presenza brasiliana ad Expo.
L’Italia è il secondo partner commerciale UE del Brasile e conta oltre 900 filiali e stabilimenti produttivi operanti nel Paese. Nel corso del colloquio si è parlato di ulteriori opportunità di investimento nei settori dell’energia (in particolare nelle rinnovabili) e delle infrastrutture, oltre ai tradizionali comparti automobilistico e delle telecomunicazioni. Altro tema dell’incontro è stato il sistema produttivo italiano, basato sulla piccola e media impresa e sui distretti industriali, con potenzialità interessanti anche per realtà brasiliana. Al termine dell’incontro il Ministro Vieira ha invitato il Ministro Gentiloni a compiere, entro il 2015, una visita in Brasile, anche per approfondire ulteriormente le già positive dinamiche economiche tra i due Paesi.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni, received the Foreign Minister of Brazil, Mauro Luiz Iecker Vieira, at Farnesina Palace. The meeting was held in view of the forthcoming EU-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) summit and the 7th Italy-Latin America and the Caribbean Conference, held in Milan on 12 and 13 June. The talks centred on the main regional policy dossiers, economic cooperation, the EU-Mercosur negotiations – with regard to which Gentiloni reiterated the strong Italian interest in concluding a Trade Agreement between Europe and Mercosur – and the opportunities for bilateral synergies arising from the Brazilian presence at Expo. Italy is Brazil’s second largest trading partner in the EU and has over 900 subsidiaries and production facilities in operation in the country. During the meeting, there was talk of further investment opportunities in the energy (in particular in the field of renewables) and infrastructure sectors, in addition to the traditional automotive and telecommunications sectors. Another topic of the meeting was the Italian production system, based on small and medium-sized enterprises and industrial districts, with interesting potential for Brazilian businesses. After the meeting, Minister Vieira invited Minister Gentiloni to visit Brazil in 2015, not least to further the already positive economic dynamics between the two countries.
