The Italian Pavilion Opens its Nursery to Schools
The first month saw the participation of 120 schools with a total of 1,600 students and 200 teachers
The first month has passed and the Expo School Project has also come alive, as demonstrated by the pride expressed by the young protagonists and their teachers at the Nursery School in the Italian Pavilion. In all, more than 120 educational institutions have been involved, with 1,800 students and teachers, and four daily appointments.
The ‘actualisation’ of this commitment is the exhibition at Palazzo Italia, which displays the projects on the theme ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life,’ selected though the Competition ‘School for Expo 2015’ run by the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) and the call by the School Office of Lombardy. Each project has been presented in Italian and English, and sometimes in French and Spanish. In the space, schools have also seen hospitality given to projects by certain schools adopted by Confindustria and the interventions of the Ministry of Health which, through its experts, has explained the essential principles of proper nutrition to young people. There is no shortage of interactive workshops organised by the School and Food Committee of the Ministry of Education, to be followed by other laboratories curated by sponsors and partners of the Italian Pavilion.
The projects have involved nearly every type of school – kindergartens, primary and secondary schools – and the programmes have allowed students to confront both the business world and the fabric of their own regions. The collaboration between higher education institutions has given rise to simulated business projects, prototypes related to agri-food cultivation and technological innovations created by the students themselves under the guidance of the teachers. In particular, the experiences presented by the Centres for Professional Education and by Higher Technical Institutes provide evidence that the relationship between education and business is now reality.
Proactivity, creativity and ability to meet the challenges of the millennium seem to have permeated the quality of the schools that pass through the Nursery. The teachers have also shown themselves to be an excellent lever of change in the education system as motivators and experimenters who have led the young and prolific minds with competence and enthusiasm.
