Other participants in the institutional meetings were Italian Premier, Matteo Renzi, and the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Maurizio Martina. After the flag-raising ceremony, the French and Italian delegations visited the French Pavilion, where President Hollande took part in a guided tour, while the Ministers of Agriculture Le Foll and Martina held a press conference during which they stressed the bond existing between the two countries and the importance of French participation in the Expo.
“The French Pavilion – said Le Foll – perfectly represents excellence and the challenges that our country has decided to take on to help countries in the developing world.”
The French President then signed the Milan Charter, thus undertaking to engage in the fight against food waste and world hunger.
In the early afternoon, François Hollande joined the Italian Premier Matteo Renzi at Palazzo Italia and together they held a press conference focused on the relations between France and Italy as regards the topic of immigration, the Greek crisis and the importance of French participation in the Universal Exposition, as well as the Climate Conference to be held in December in Paris.
“Expo Milano 2015 sees France and Italy play a lead role in the global debate on nutrition, food for all, food waste and lifestyle, topics sealed by the signing of the Milan Charter”, said Renzi. Hollande then returned to the French Pavilion to launch a last message on the country’s role in the fight against the problems facing the planet: “France can address population growth and limited food resources with an abundance of food production.
