BUONISSIMO!

BUONISSIMO! Taste, Quality and Traditions from Lazio
A selection of gourmet food products from Lazio was recently introduced in Ontario, where discussions took place on future collaborations and investment opportunities
At the end of April, the Lazio Region presented its territory, its businesses, and its excellences to Canada. A delegation from Lazio showcased a selection of food products, for the first time available in some retail stores of Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. The delegation was headed by the Regional Minister of Economic Development for the Region of Lazio, Professor Guido Fabiani.
This initiative was part of a project that Lazio started in 2013 to promote agribusiness, which to date has involved more than 80 companies. The project was coordinated by ICCO – the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario, in collaboration with Lazio Innova, the in-house company of the Lazio Region for the internationalization of enterprises.
To promote its products, tasting corners were set up at different grocery and retail stores, including Lady York Foods in Toronto, Gastronomix located in the financial district of the city, and Michael-Angelo’s in Markham and Mississauga. The tasting events were open to the public as well as to the food industry representatives. Among the products available on promotional sale for a limited time were pasta, sauces and spreads, confectionery, biscuits, chocolate, coffee and soft drinks. In the upcoming months, other tasting events with Lazio products will be organized in collaboration with Canadian importer and distributor Jan K. Overweel, in other grocery stores in the GTA.
Beside this initiative in the field of agribusiness, the visit of the Lazio delegation has brought new potential opportunities for future cooperation, trade and investments in various sectors such as aerospace, wine industry, mechanical industry, pharmaceutical and medical science, and the film industry. In this regard, ICCO organized a series of meetings with the Minister of Economic Development, Labour and Infrastructure of Ontario, Brad Duguid, the mayors of Toronto and Vaughan, a visit to the incubator for digital business of the Ryerson Polytechnic Institute and to the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre at Toronto General Hospital.
“The visit of the Lazio delegation has confirmed the success of this initiative in the food industry so far. This format for the promotion of local products is highly visible and easily replicable for many other Italian companies,” says Corrado Paina, the executive director of the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario. “In addition, this initiative has given the necessary impulse for future collaboration and investment opportunities of Italian companies that can find in Ontario a fertile ground to operate and internationalize their businesses.”
