Made in Italy all’estero.
DALLE CCIE, SERVIZI E PARTNERSHIP STRATEGICHE.

Italic Peoples: Primary Ambassadors of ‘Made in Italy’
Enhancing the profile of ‘Italicity’ (i.e. the quality of being Italic) in the world through the business community abroad
In recent times, thanks to the contribution of Piero Bassetti, what has returned to the centre of public debate is a reflection on the theme of the world’s Italic peoples, which has developed over the years; this being a community of people who identify themselves with the fundamental values of our country and therefore ‘feel’ Italian (or, Italic), independently of their nationality, linguistic background, or Italian origins.
These communities are a medium for tradition, lifestyle, cultural models and values which may be attributed to Italy, and one of the ways they find their identity is in the purchasing of goods and services, as well as in the channelling of economic flow and interest in our country.
THE ROLE OF THE CCIE (Chambers of Commerce Abroad) IN THE DISSEMINATION OF ITALICITY. In the course of the seminar ‘Globalisation and Italicity’, organised in Milan by Globus and Locus and Assocamerestero on 17th July this year, what powerfully emerged was the potential contributed by the CCIE network as a factor in the mobilisation of the interests of these communities, for a variety of reasons. In the first instance, CCIE and Italian and foreign associations of economic operators are linked in a network based on an increasingly multilateral rationale; moreover, the composition of CCIE’s membership base is already over 80% today, consisting of foreign operators interested in doing business with Italy and who therefore – in many respects – can represent an important medium for attracting investment into our country. It is really on this front that the roles and activities of the CCIE are played out as points of connection with the business community. Being an element in the promotion of Italicity across the world in fact means being able to activate and inspire interest in this Italicity in the direction of Italy, by virtue of its deep roots on foreign soil and its multilateral and widespread presence on a good 54 markets. These lobbying activities are then naturally followed by service activities for businesses and institutions.
ITALIC PEOPLES IN THE WORLD: A HUGE RESOURCE. In order for all this to translate into a virtuous circle, an active contribution from Italy is required for the enhancement of Italic communities and this is demonstrated by the role CCIE can play in this area. An essential precondition is therefore the mutual recognition on the part of Italians of the importance of leveraging the world’s Italic peoples as primary ambassadors of the promotion and distribution of Made in Italy goods abroad.
For the Chambers of Commerce, being exponential and aggregate entities of Italicity means using this power to support a peculiar service activity, which may also be specialised in more innovative fields than in the past, but which remains centred on the double axes of institutions which provide services, making the most of our natural propensity for networking, based on entrepreneurship and potentially multilateral.
STRATEGIC SERVICES AND PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE CCIE. To go the extra mile and actually create an Italic platform requires a team. The real political ‘challenge’ – to cite Bassetti – is that of moving from the sense of being Italian as a quality anchored in the nation state (a position typically adopted by institutions and even many individuals) to a broader and more modern Italic vision, in line with the globalisation and ‘glocalisation’ which we are now living in.
Along this route, the CCIE are a benchmark to aspire to, besides providing consolidated promotional services for businesses on world markets and operative value-adding activities in these communities, thus further enhancing the true potential of networking. Strategic services and partnerships are what companies require and Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad are ready to do their part to help SMEs operate and be competitive on a global scale.
