Tourist Routes for Discovering Excellence in Business
A tour of companies in Piedmont to discover the trades of the past and present, between ancient traditions and modern technology
Piedmontese companies open their doors to tourists to unveil their secrets. From
19 March to 26 June 2015, ‘Made in Piemonte’ offers 51 tours in the same number of production companies excelling in agri-food, luxury and design.
It is a tour that uncovers the trades of the past and present, combining the elegance of ancient traditions with the most modern cutting edge technology: from the processing of fine wools and fabrics to that of wood and ceramics, glass and plastic, but also floriculture and the dairy tradition of gorgonzola and mountain cheeses, the rice fields and the production of wines and spirits, from craft shops that create toys, accordions and umbrellas to the field of taps and valves. This is a unique opportunity to discover all the stages of the production process that take some of the best known products made in Piedmont to the Italian and international markets.
Particular emphasis is placed on East Piedmont with the provinces of Biella (13 companies), Vercelli (11 companies), Novara (18 companies) and Verbania (9 companies). There will be opportunities to combine a business visit with a day of shopping in the outlets, and also tours on foot or by bicycle to discover local food and wine and historical and artistic heritage.
The initiative is part of an Italian-Swiss cross-border project funded by the European Union to contribute to the diversification and seasonal adjustment of tourism through the development of business tourism. The Region of Piedmont is its leader in partnership with Unioncamere Piemonte and with the technical and scientific contribution of the University of Turin, in addition to the operational support of Confindustria Piemonte, the Chambers of Commerce and the Industrial Unions of the four provinces affected by the project, of Ceipiemonte and local tourist agencies from Biella, Valsesia-Vercelli, Novara, the tourist district of the Lakes, Mountains and Valleys of Ossola and the agency Turismo Torino e Provincia, the latter overseeing the training part.
On 19 June 2015, the Citadel of the Milan Expo will host an event to share the project internationally that will also involve the Swiss partners. Between late April and June a series of theatrical performances related to the topic will start in the Eastern Piedmont region, to engage young people and schools and in general those who are the first privileged ‘users’ of a region, i.e. its inhabitants. “The identity of a region is also based on its productive souls,” emphasised Antonella Parigi, Culture and Tourism Councillor for the Region of Piedmont. “Having the opportunity to explore inside it offers a new cultural and historical experience, because each of them is inseparably linked to the area, which on the one hand has its characteristics that have favoured the establishment of certain companies, and on the other has seen its own face transform over the years, as it has been shaped by those same processes. Our goal, starting with Eastern Piedmont, is to extend this project to the whole area, integrating ‘Made in Piemonte’ with tried and tested tours such as Made in Torino, making business tourism one of the products of excellence offered by Piedmont.”
“Businesses as a tourist offer, as a strategic asset of knowledge and attraction for our areas. This is the objective of the ‘Made in Piemonte’ project,” commented Ferruccio Dardanello, President of Unioncamere Piemonte. “It is a new way to enhance our industrial heritage, which is widespread throughout Piedmont, and to revitalise it by opening the doors of our companies, showcasing ‘made in’ products and quality processes. The original experience and technological and innovative content fit into the strategic development of our cities and of knowledge of our active production, a symbol of our history and our excellence.”
