L’arte in bottiglia a Expo Milano 2015

“L’arte in bottiglia.

Art in a Bottle at Expo Milano 2015
The Coca-Cola Pavilion hosts a contemporary art exhibition celebrating 100 years of the iconic bottle that has inspired artists from around the world
‘Art in a bottle. The first 100 years of the iconic Coca-Cola bottle’ is the title of the contemporary art exhibition being held at the Coca-Cola Pavilion of Expo Milano 2015 to celebrate the centenary of the curvy glass bottle that, from 1915 to today, has inspired artists from around the world, becoming a pop icon.
The central elements of the exhibition are unique works by artists such as Andy Warhol, Howard Finster, Todd Ford and other contemporary artists like Debra Franses Bean, Alberto Murillo and Pakpoom Silaphan. Two Italian artists are also featured, namely Luigi Bona and Daniele Basso.
“The Coca Cola bottle was inspired by the curves of the cocoa bean and over the years it has gained the status of a design icon, which was also confirmed by it being awarded the title of best design object ever made. The traits of the bottle are so distinctive that it can be recognised with your eyes closed or even if broken on the ground,” said curator Ted Ryan, Director of Heritage Communications at the Coca-Cola Company.
The Coca-Cola Pavilion as a whole is a tribute to the iconic bottle, which influenced its concept and architecture. In fact, the outer walls of the south side are formed of multiplie external sails that recreate its silhouette, and within the Pavilion there are 840 glass bottles hanging from the ceiling, each containing an LED to create a spectacular effect with high visual impact.
