London, Maroni: Region Supports Young People and New Ideas
The Lombardy Region at ‘UnBound Digital,’ one of the most prestigious conventions dedicated to innovative start-ups
“Lombardy is the region with the largest number of start-ups in Italy. We finance and economically support young people launching their new ideas, because this is the future, this is progress. We believe in them and invest a lot in this direction”. These are the words spoken by Roberto Maroni, President of the Lombardy Region, in London, at the Italy Forum organised by Ice and the Italian Chamber of Commerce for the UK, at ‘UnBound Digital’, one of the most prestigious conventions dedicated to innovative start-ups.
“The Lombardy Region wants to contribute concretely in the development of innovative start-ups by providing them with resources, a place to start their activity and by reducing taxes”, explained Maroni in his speech. “More specifically, we have put in place a measure which allows young people under the age of 35 who launch an innovative start-up not to pay taxes in Lombardy for two years. I have seen many interesting start-up experiences here”, he continued, “very innovative, but we want to be the first in this as well, that is the reason for our visit. Lombardy counts more than 800,000 small and micro companies on its territory and we are interested in understanding how we can help them grow and become global leaders. We also want to invest in culture, Italy is the country with the most UNESCO sites in the world, and 10 out of 50 of them are in Lombardy. I am interested in understanding how we can promote them with innovative technologies. And we can do this with the regional and European funds. Lombardy is one of the most important regions in Italy”, the President stressed, “it is part of the Quattro Motori d’Europa association. We have 13 universities, more than 500 public and private research centres and 6 tecnologic parks. We are investing in this direction because this is the future. A month ago Lombardy hosted the closing ceremony of Expo Milano 2015, which was a big success, and we showed the world what Italy is capable of if we all work together in the right way. The theme of the Expo was ‘Feed the Planet’, now with the innovation and the start-ups, we want to go beyond: we want to ‘Feed the future’.
