A New Impetus to Italian Boating
The leaders of UCINA and Fiera di Genova presented the innovations of the 55th International Boat Show to Deputy Minister Calenda
“We are satisfied with the meeting with Deputy Minister Carlo Calenda. Strong alignment emerged on the importance of the Genoese fair as the only event dedicated to pleasure boating, also confirmed by the support received from the Region of Liguria and the city of Genoa.” These were the words of the new President of UCINA Confindustria Nautica, Carla Demaria, at the end of her meeting in Rome with the Deputy Minister of Economic Development and the heads of Fiera di Genova. The meeting provided an opportunity to outline the new features of the 55th International Boat Show due to be hosted by the Ligurian capital from 30 September to 5 October 2015.
One of the innovations of the fair presented as the most important event dedicated to lovers of the Mediterranean sea is a collaboration with Volvo Ocean Race, which was concluded with an agreement that will see the protagonists of the historic regatta come to Genoa for the first time.
As explained by UCINA, the Deputy Minister especially appreciated the design capacity of the Association: it not only refers to the arrival of the fleet for the Volvo Ocean Race, but also to other initiatives regarding the fair and its ability to promote Made in Italy design, history and industrial capacity, with projects that will be finalised in the coming months.
This commitment is in line with the programme presented by the newly elected President, which aims to relaunch the association, defending and promoting the entire Italian boating chain in Italy and abroad, and to turning around the Genoa Boat Show.
Its objectives include an amendment to the Statute to allow the involvement of many more member companies in the decision-making processes. On the other hand, with its 330 companies, UCINA has a membership base that does not represent the Italian market enough, and should therefore be more aggregated and better represented.
Another vital issue for Carla Demaria is that of access to credit: the intention is to promote a dialogue with the European Investment Bank and try to restart leasing. The programme also includes the launch of new international projects that will benefit from greater integration with the EBI-European Boating Industry.
It is especially important to act soon, as stressed by President Demaria, to give new vigour to the Italian boating chain, which constitute an example of industrial excellence and which has the potential, if supported and enhanced, to grow further.
