Un Oscar all’orgoglio Italiano

An Oscar for Italian pride
Congratulations to Honorary Member of the Leonardo Committee and composer Ennio Morricone for his well-deserved Oscar. Mr Morricone, who is a profound soul with a sensitivity for the musical culture that best represents our time, also received the prestigious Leonardo Prize in 2010
The Oscar crowns what has been a truly special year for Mr Morricone, who is celebrating 60 years of his career. After five previous nominations and an Oscar for his lifetime contribution in 2007, the 87-year-old composer has finally won the award for the theme of a film, Quentin Tarantino’s political Western The Hateful Eight. The Italian musician received a standing ovation as he went up to the stage accompanied by his son Giovanni, where he embraced Quincy Jones (who called him “brother”) and, clearly moved, said: “Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, thank you to the Academy for this prestigious award. My thoughts are also with the other candidates and in particular the esteemed John Williams. There is not great music without a great film to inspire it, so thank you to Quentin Tarantino for choosing me and to producer Harvey Weinstein and the whole film troupe. I dedicate this music and this victory to my wife Maria.”

The race for the Oscar
Ennio Morricone has written the music for more than 500 films and TV series, while his compositions have been used for more than 60 Oscar-winning films.
